Communicating across difference: How to strengthen stakeholder relationships

9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. CDT (UTC-5)

We all know that content projects—from creating new product descriptions to full website migrations—are strongest when we include a wide variety of stakeholders, but working with a big group brings its own challenges! Sometimes we talk past each other when we’re excited about our own priorities, and we can’t hear what’s important to the rest of the team. We make assumptions about our colleague’s backgrounds and experiences, and end up creating a space where not everyone feels comfortable participating. It’s hard to figure out how to connect, and to center our relationships, while still creating content that is powerful and helpful for our users.

In this workshop, we’ll explore:

  • Ways to create space for more authentic connections within our teams.
  • How fear impacts our ability to collaborate with others.
  • A framework to increase good communication, even with people we disagree with.

Who should attend: This workshop will benefit folks who want to improve their listening skills and strengthen relationships in an effort to do better, more effective work.
