Breakout session

Words and the design process

When it comes to building products, some people might think of content as a final flourish, words on a page or screen that can be written just before launch. But we know thoughtful, consistent interface content is a core element of a well-designed user experience. In this talk, we’ll look at how to incorporate content throughout the design process. We’ll start with the role of content in sketching and work our way up to polishing content in high fidelity mockups.

In this session, you’ll learn how to:

  • Improve content fidelity gradually throughout the design process.
  • Map content elements and determine hierarchy.
  • Teach designers the importance of a content-first approach.
  • Provide sound rationale for your content decisions.

Who should attend: This session is ideal for in-house or agency content strategists and UX writers who work closely with designers (or do some design themselves). You’ll learn how to spend your time, and what to care about, throughout each stage of the design process when building interfaces, apps, software, and products. This will be best suited for people working on products (not websites), but there will be lots of visual examples, so it should be very accessible to all.
